Tried to help my Mother-In-Law get sound back into her computer. The integrated sound seems to have failed. So I went with a new sound card.
That overwrote something and then sent the computer into blue screen reboot flooie.
Solved that problem by getting the new sound card back out.
The computer works fine [no sound still] but now when I boot up I get the error message
The procedure entry point_except_handler4_common could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll
and
error loading p17rune.dll
I can push through those issues and the computer runs fine. I researched further and found there is a solution, but it's just on the outside of my ken. That and I need my winXP disk, which I don't have with me.
I have just enough tools and info to get myself into trouble. I see where it would be relatively easy to gather a tool kit, and now I'm thinking it would be a good idea to do so.
Argle argle argle.

I never have actually figured out what caused the sound to get screwed up, but I have a nagging suspicion that it was something to do with the Windows Audio service. That was new since Win2k, and Win2k never had that issue with audio.
