Green Thumb Turns Black
Apr. 18th, 2010 10:39 amI've had a spectacular Christmas Cactus for about 20 years. I bought it as a small stub back in 1990, the first Christmas in my first hours in Indianola.
It grew huge. It had to be re-potted 5 times.
It decided that it wanted to be an Easter Cactus, Then a Thanksgiving Cactus, Then a Halloween Cactus. Once it was a 4th of July Cactus. In fact it bloomed whenever it pleased.
It lived through 2 cats who thought it was a great dangley toy. I lived through a third cat that sought it's shelter while running from the first two. It lived through a month long move and relocation where it had to spend a late October Early November on an apartment balcony.
It lived through the introduction of two kittens and there growth to maturity.
Friday I chose to re-pot it again. It was looking very wilted. I started to un-pot it, and the entire plant just lifted off it's root ball. It had no roots. They had all rotted away.
The poor former plant is now in the yard waste bin.
Time to start again.
