Input:::

I have a bee hive attached to my house. It's way up under the eve, about 30 to 35 feet high. I don't believe they are doing anything other then attaching themselves to the eve [they aren't eating into the house]. The paper ball is growing, it's about a half foot in diameter.

So what are people's thoughts? Should I "Take Them Out!" or leave them be?

You should definitely take them out, but you should wait until they are almost finished, whereupon repair and recovery from your artificial disaster will be tougher to achieve. Last time I took out a nest (ages ago now) I just used a garden hose from a considerable distance until the nest was demolished. The bees never figured out where the attack was coming from, or were too wet to pursue the matter. It seemed to work well.

Take them out. Even though they're the bee's knees, they are all the other parts of the bee too, and some of those parts are less cool than the knees.

Actually I was never clear on what was so cool about a bee's knees anyway.

Being slightly alergic to their sting...

I vote to take them out. Luck.

My vote is to take them out. Plus, my bet is that because they're building a ball, they're wasps, not bees. Wasps in the forest is one thing, but on your house? Nope.

This is one of those homeowner tasks that we have found is well left to professionals. Call a *local* exterminator (not one of the national chains, if you can avoid it), describe what you see, and ask how you should go about attacking it. The local folks will likely be happy to give you some free advice and will have a reasonable price if you do call them out to do the job.

if they're bees, leave 'em be. If they're wasps or hornets, get thee to Fred Meyer or Ace Hardware and buy a can mint-based spray. That'll do 'em in without spreading nerve toxins around the environment.
