Today, on the way into work, I stopped off at Office Depot and picked up a new computer for the office. It's another emachine, like my mother-in-laws, only with a few more bells and whistles.
Now comes the drawn out process of getting data from the graphics computer [the Pentium II 450] loaded into the new computer, and then the accounting data in the Pentium 1 moved over into the Pentium II. The only backup we have for the Pentium 1 is a 100 meg zip drive. It should do the job, but I have to scrounge for the software.
The Pentium II will need a little work. Some of the parts on the I/O card are failing. There are a few other items that need work. I've just realized that the PII is 4 years old. Not bad I suppose. But that means that the P1 is around 7 or 8 years old.
When we moved into Poulsbo we set up the office to have negative air pressure so as to blow dust out. We also supplied the entire shop with Halon fire extinguishers. All of this was to protect the thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment that we had.
Thousands??? Those were the days. I just spent $600 on this machine and it's nice monitor. Go figure. So when the guy busted into our shop last Monday he left the computers. They weren't worth it to him. Knock on wood.
