To continue in the "Disney" topic, Juli and I just came back from "Brother Bear". The story is actually rather interesting. I was surprised after reading all of the reviews. It's a little complex, as complex as an hour and 25 minutes can get. Some reviewers said it was a rehash of "The Lion King" and the like. Not so, in my opinion. I find some twists in the traditional Disney story line. One reviewer said there are some Shakespearian type plots, which is a good description.

Visually the animation is beautiful. Disney aficionados should not be disappointed.

Hopefully this film will do well at the box office and the folks at Disney will take notice. Some of you may have heard that Disney only has one more Feature cartoon in production and is considering abandoning it's 2d animated movies. Previews of the next film, "Home on the Range", look like a step backwards. But then the style of "Home on the Range" is more Saturday Morning. Disney has taken a side step before with "Hercules" and has survived. I'm crossing my fingers.

Oh, and by all means, stay until the very end of the credits. There is an Easter Egg.

That would be terrible if they abandon 2D animation. I'm not a big fan of 3D animation. Oh well, that makes one person.

I've noticed that a lot of friends have said that Brother Bear is a good movie. I wanted to see it but I wasn't certain if I wanted to or not. Now there will be two movies I'll want to see sometime if I get more hours at work (so I have more money!).

"We're really a couple of squirrels, eh?"

I went and saw the movie today. I put it somewhere just above the middle-average of Disney animated features. Not really great, but pretty good. I thought it felt a little too 'by-the-numbers', but still overcame that weakness most of the time. It had great visuals; they really let their background artists go to town. The Phil Collins music was okay, but didn't really connect as well as it did in the Tarzan feature; a couple of times it carried the emotion pretty well, but seemed to be lacking in other places.

Best of all was the two moose (meese?) played by Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis, reprising their McKenzie Brothers roles. Those were spot-on hilarious and helped carry the film through the slower spots. I also liked the extra gags tagged on to the end credits. Did you guys catch the very last gag at the very end, after the credits?

It wasn't bad. It was certainly a far cry better than Treasure Planet, which I only just saw the other night for the first time.

Hey, I liked Hercules, if only for the Ralph Steadman designed characters.
