The little buggers were worse today. I hosed the caterpillars off of the rose and the picnic table, hoping to drowned some of them. They came back in force, gathering in the very mud created by the flood. It's like they were enjoying themselves, clustered and piled like a heep of squirming brown fuzz. With todays heat, maybe they thought it was a sauna. Club Bug.

With the heat came the North Wind, swirling the bits of leaf and dirt about the parking lot. It was strong enough to blow the caterpillars about like tumbleweeds. It blew some away, only to be replaced by the ones that blew back in.

And is a dust devil really a dust devil if it only contains caterpillars? Wouldn't that be a Caterpillar Devil? They are already demonic, now flailing about franticly clinging to what ever they came into contact with, their sticky feet adhering like so much floating velcro.

They have crested out building. They've scurried over the top and are now falling over the gutter into our landscape. They reach out with their heads, waving them about in hopes of coming into contact with something, or maybe they are praying to some evil deity. Then they reach too far and fall past the screen windows. Then they scuttle away into the parking lot.

Now we step to avoid. The slime on our shoes has become too much to bear. But bear it we must. We can't cross the pavement without walking on the backs of some. They are flowing out our driveway and into the street.

They are a river. ...a fuzzy brown undulating river.
