It's Tradition!
May. 26th, 2003 08:23 pmJuli and I had a traditional Memorial Day. We went out to breakfast at the Family Pancake House. That's sort of a thing for us. If we go out for breakfast that's where we go.
After breakfast we drove around the long way home, down through Port Orchard, out through Snug Harbour and Manchester, and on the Harper's landing. I wanted to stop at harper's Landing, have a Chai and walk the dock. Unfortunately the parking slots were full. Hey, there is only enough room for about 5 cars, so what do you figure?
We drove on a few more blocks to Harper Park and walked the trails through the harper Hill woods. I've never visited Harper Park, so it was kinda fun. It's going to be a good replacement for Manchester State Park. Harper Park is Huge for a community park. I'm sure we put on at least three miles of walking.
We drove on to Southworth, contemplated stopping there for a hot beverage, but chose instead to head home. People were barbecuing steak at Harper Park, and the smell of it wafted up throughout the hill. Juli got the idea that we could have stake for dinner. I suggested barbecued chicken instead, which she thought would work. I like steak, just not today.
So, we got home and got down to Memorial Day traditions. I mowed the lawn. Yard work is a tradition, right? Then I drove off to the store for supplies. Got home and started Banana and Chocolate Chip bread in the bread machine. Baked goods, that's tradition, right? Then we killed time. I got a little computer work done, not as much writing as I would have liked. Loafing about is tradition.
I fired up the grill at about 6:30 and got the chicken going. Barbecues are tradition. It started to rain at about 7:00. Rain on Memorial Day is Tradition. I dropped a piece of meat on the deck and tossed it back on the grill. That's tradition.
Dinner was great! I broke with tradition and ate the piece of dropped chicken myself. A little dirt is the spice of life!
It was a good holiday.
