A lot of it has to do with attitude. People tend to look down on "positive thinking" as a tool of the self help guru's. The truth is the environment around you tends to reflect your attitude. If you approach a situation with a bad attitude then that situation will tend to prove the validity of your attitude. on the other hand if you approach that same situation with a good attitude that same situation will tend to prove the validity of that same good attitude.

How is this possible? I have a theory. Everything has the full range of potential from good to bad results. If you approach the situation expecting the worst then the evidence given by the situation for bad results will serve to prove your expectations. You will tend to act on that evidence resulting in a negative outcome. On the other hand if you approach the situation expecting the best then the evidence given by the situation for good results will serve to prove your expectations. You will tend to act on that evidence resulting in a positive outcome.

So I ask, what's wrong with positive thinking? Nothing. Samuel Clemens is known for saying that if you always expect the worst you will never suffer disappointment. ...or something to that effect. That's a pretty pessimistic point of view if you ask me. I'd rather go into a project expecting the best and striving for that outcome.

I suppose the trick is to define a successful out come as something that's easily reached. Lower the bar? Perhaps. Start with an easy victory. "I got up and went to the gym early this morning." Build on that victory with th next one. "I've increased my weights." Don't jump at the large goal. "I want a 6 pack abdomen with zero dunlop over the belt." Take small steps and be convinced as to the outcome.

I try... well, I've been trying!

Actually, I do have a better outlook that a lot of people I know! Hmm, even though I could get depressed I am not as paranoid or negative as some people. Lost sometimes, maybe, but that takes motivation...

...sometimes I do wish that I was MORE pessamistic in my mind. Right now I really wish that I was!

Oh well.. it's late and I'm just blabing on.
