We left Rockland for Boston today.  We didn't go directly though, even though it's only 11 miles away.  No, we went East in search of Lighthouses.

And, oh my, was the wind still in force!  While we were visiting the Scituate Light a number of locals came out to watch the waves in awe as they crashed over the breakwater.  And while it wasn't raining the salt spray covered us, our car, and of more concern, our cameras.  Hopefully they'll survive.  Will try to clean them up a bit tonight.

The Scituate light looks modern, but it's really an old design from 1810.  There is a bit of a story with that goes with it as well, about two daughters of the keeper who were left in charge while the family was away.  They managed to scare off a British warship.
---You can read about it here.

We managed to bull our way through the wind along the South shore and catch four lights, including the first one in America, Boston Harbor.  Before we left the Ocean for Boston we retreated out of the wind and spray to a little coffee house called Dunkin' Donuts to warm up and have a bight.
Speaking of warming up, have I mentioned that the weather has gotten decidedly chilly?  Remember it was muggy last week?  Now it's struggling to get out of the 50's.

On our way to Boston Mapquest failed us.  Then the "Navigation Magic" failed us and we not only got lost but eventually found ourselves back at the previously mentioned little coffee shop.  We eventually had to bull our way up the shoreline until we came to a familiar interstate.  Finally after a few miss-turns in Boston we found our hotel.

Since it was only 2:00 pm we quickly jumped on the green line subway and cruised on in to Downtown Boston.  We spent the afternoon wandering Boston Commons Park and The Public Garden.  There are a number of statues and sculptures all over the property, a crowning piece being a large statue of George Washington on horseback.
In the background a church tower would chime the hours and then try its very best to chimes hymns for about 10 minutes.  There was one cute sculpture that Juli was hunting for.  We finally found the Momma Duck and her 8 ducklings is bronze.  It was based on a children's story called "Make Way for Ducklings", which I've never heard of but Juli is very familiar with.   There were a number of kids climbing on Momma for pictures.  Then someones Grandma climbed aboard and had her picture taken.  She wanted to treat her granddaughter to a surprise photo.

We stopped at a deli-grocery-flower shop and had dinner of a very delicious turkey, cranberry, and stuffing sandwich before hopping the subway back to our hotel.

Now I wanted to show my photo of waves crashing against Minot's Point Light,
But Juli took the prize for that one.
