God, what a night!

I dropped Eddie off at the vet. Dr. Buck and I had a talk and she examined eddie. He's dehydrated, which we figured. He hasn't been eating or drinking for the past three days and he threw up his pill this morning.

So Eddie is staying at the hospital until Monday while they get nutrients and water into him. And I felt no worries. It's just that inner voice thing that says "It'll be right. No worries." Dr. Buck was going to xray him just for a look see, and asked if I wanted to hang around for the results. I felt comfortable enough to leave my phone number and Juli's at work, since I planned to go shopping while Juli was away.

When I returned from Silverdale I found no message on the answering machine. I figured great, no news was good news in this case. I gave Juli a call at work anyway. they told me she'd left work for the day.

????? She's not due to leave work until 10:00 tonight. It's only 6:00. Why did she leave early? I called the vet and got Poulsbo's Animal Emergency, the place you take your pets after hours. Kitsap Vet turns their phones over to them at 3:00. I called Juli's work back and asked when she had left. 20 minutes ago. Okay, I can't take this. I hopped into the car and lit out for the vet only to find it closed and dark.

That should have been good, should have turned off the adrenalin. If I added the 20 minutes in and did the math with Juli's commuting time. But I'd slipped beyond rational and figured the worst had happened. When I got back home I called Juli's work again and asked if they knew why she had left so early. They said no and asked if I'd like to talk to Joe, her boss. Yes, that would be good. Then I find out from Joe, she'd gone to dinner, not home.

Now my heart can slow down. But just for a bit. While upstairs working one our financial books I heard a siren. now I hear sirens all the time, we're next to a highway. But this one was very close and ended quickly. That can only mean they're in the neighborhood. I stepped outside and saw two firetrucks out on the next street by the new houses. We've got heavy fog right now, so it's hard to see if there is smoke. After a while one of the trucks started pulling ahead. He turned the corner up toward us and blew his siren again.

Then : "Maerry Christmas, Everyone! Come out and see Santa! He's on the truck right behind me! Get a candy cane!"

Okay, well the second truck couldn't get through because of all the street parking, but here comes Santa Claus right down Grandridge Drive... on foot. Alrighty. Now that my heart has stopped racing, and Eddie seems to be in good hands, and the neighborer's house isn't burning to the ground... I've decided that I've had a good night. It's like getting a good scare and realising that everything is alright after all. No, it's nothing like that. It's exactly that.

Now it's time for "Buffy; Once More With Feeling".

It's all good.
