It's not too early!
Nov. 24th, 2002 06:35 pmYesterday I was tired, sluggish and lazy. Today I got up at about 9:00 [that's in between "early" and "sleeping in" for me]. I spent the morning cleaning the kitchen and running the dishwasher. That way it would be done by the time Juli got up. She likes to sleep in on her days off, and I don't blame her a bit.
I spent most of the rest day putting up our outdoor Christmas lights. I decided to keep it simple this year. The Icicle lights are beginning to look rather odd. This year I have a simple strand of multi colored mini lights running the roof-line of the second and first story. The strand on the first story is longer then I expected, so I wrapped one of the porch supports and then used it to tie our fake green garland to the porch rail. The two trees out front have white light trunk wraps and then one tree is adorned with red lights and the other with green. I have a few more lights to put up. One of the second story strands is half burned out and will need to be replaced. Then there is the multi colored net to go over the weeping maple by the porch. Juli wants some some lights on our back deck this year. We have lots. I haven't used any of last year's blue lights.
We have a nippy cold Northerly hitting us. Here on Grandridge there isn't really anything blocking that particular wind. We have a great view on Mount Baker from the street, which sorta tells you what kind of wind break we have. but there's something kind of traditional about numb fingers handling Christmas lights on a bright sunny day. This time of year it's 'very' bright because the sun is lower on the horizon. I even like the few slimy leaves that I have to swipe off the strands as I hang the lights on the gutters.
Finally... they aren't on. It is too early. I'll turn them on when we leave for dinner on Thanksgiving. I had them on briefly tonight, just to see what they looked like. They look cool this year, with the red and the green tree. But in the end it still doesn't feel like time yet. Thanksgiving is a good time.
Now I'm playing Mark Isham's Vapor Drawings. This is my cold weather music. I usually save it for the snowy days, but I felt cold enough today. Tonight I'm baking potatoes. I don't use the microwave. One hour of baking gives them just the right texture.
Not tired today. Water. Lots of water first thing. It really clears the head.
