Tee Pee / Wigwam
Oct. 11th, 2002 03:13 pmTwo Tents.
This has been a nerve racking day. Two weeks ago my younger nephew had an emergency appendectomy. They have no insurance. My sister-in-law doesn't handle stress well. A couple of days ago my older nephew over the head with a CD player and injured him. He ran off and called 911 [he's 17]. She reported to the police when they arrived that he had attacked her and she was defending herself. IMO not likely. She has since called all of older nephews friends and told them that if they harbor him they are harboring a run-away. Older nephew has talked with councilors at school and has reported to CPA.
TODAY:
My parents are very close to their grandkids. Up until they moved from Kodiak all of this ruckus was remote. Now it's right here. My Father has developed arrhythmia due to stress. This morning he got medivac-ed to the hospital. He's fine now. They just needed to get his heart to behave. Everything else in him is overly healthy. They are surprised that he has no medications to report.
He's irritated that he has to stay overnight. He's bored. His roommate wants to watch TV and my father wants nothing to do with it. My father is an artist.
I've been fortunate for the past twenty years. We've had a quiet, peaceful, humorously eccentric family. Now it's gone horribly wrong. I have underdeveloped skills in how to deal.
Our floor supervisor went on vacation today. With my parents at the hospital that leaves me in charge. Two of our associates are fighting [verbally].

Date: 2002-10-11 03:47 pm (UTC)And it just occured to me that, while I've met both of your siblings, your brother-in-law, and the neice on the one side... I've never met the sister-in-law or the two nephews. Not that my having met anyone is important to all of this.

Date: 2002-10-11 09:45 pm (UTC)As to listening skills, I am Suzanne's confidante. She has said she needs at least one child who isn't embroiled in chaos. I guess that's me. I try to maintain Sympathy, not Empathy. But this is family. It's hard.
My best course of action right now, sadly, is to remain detached. Where my father is concerned though, there is very little detachment. I can remain calm, which is what he needs. I'll just lean on Juli.
