WebTV and the Graduate

Woke up this morning at 5... fully rested??? Juli spent the night at her mother's. They went to the ballet last night.
My mother is finally moving on from her WebTV. For those of you who don't know what WebTV is, it's a cheap way to get internet access. For about $100, back in the day anyway, you could get a box that allowed you to surf the net and get eMail through your TV.
MicroSoft bought WebTV and has been trying to advance it or retire it, much to the distress of the WebTV users. What MS seems to have failed to realize was that the Webbies are mostly low tech folks who don't like much in the way of change. ...the less complicated the better and just give me the on/off button.
Well, now, with faster internet connections [DSL and Cable] poor dial up, low resolution, WebTV can't display much of the internet.
Yesterday I went shopping with my mother to buy a laptop. She has been looking into this for the past 4 months. I have to give her a lot of credit. She approached it with more knowledge then I would have guessed. ...enough to make her a little apprehensive. I took away her Luddite membership card about 6 years ago though, so I shouldn't have been surprised.
In the end she bought herself an HP something [1.67 Ghz 80G HD]. Her decisions were based on comfort. The fact that it was 'shiny' helped a little bit.
So in the next few weeks she should be able to surf on hew WebTV and through her laptop at the same time. She is unwilling to let go of her WebTV because there are a lot of things in WTV that are not accessible with regular internet. I bet she leaves it behind quickly though.
