Sunday, Stung by Ferry Runs

dolphins_logSunday was obviously the better day for indoor shopping. We had planned to go to Ikea.
However ...
Juli got a call from her brother. Her father was in the hospital again. Apparently he was struck by some dizzy spells while he was bidding on a moving job. Instead of accepting an offer to call 911 he drove himself home. He figured out that he had a serious problem when he found he had trouble turning left. Okay, so he got home safely, struggled into the house and called... his son, Mike. Mike came over and drove him to the hospital. At this point he couldn't even get out of the car, let alone walk to the emergency entrance.
Long story short here, he's staying in the hospital until they figure out what's wrong. They haven't ruled out stroke, but there aren't enough symptoms to account for that. He just can't walk straight.
So, we decided to stop by and see him in Edmonds before we headed south to Ikea.
First roadblock; we got into Kingston at 1:00 and found that the ferry was backed up. I should have guessed. A cloudy end of a summer weekend is always this way.
Second roadblock; we got down to the ferry terminal by 1:40 and were told that we would be on the 3:10 boat.
Third roadblock; The Spokane [the 2:15 boat] developed electrical problems and couldn't leave the pier until it got fixed; -and- the Coast Guard checked the repair. Our boat had to wait off shore for the pier to clear.
So we got in to see Juli's father by 5:00. I forgot to say, he's doing fine. They just want to find out what's going on. We stayed for an hour and a half and shot the breeze.
By 6:30 Juli and I were on I 5 heading for Southcenter. We'd given up on Ikea and planned on dinner at the Rain Forest cafe in the Southcenter Mall. We had eaten at the Rain Forest Cafe in Orlando on our honeymoon. That was a riot. They offered us a gift certificate and told us that this one in Southcenter had just been planned. This one was like a flashback to our Orlando trip.
After dinner we headed for Fauntleroy and home, only to encounter the …
Fourth roadblock; we pulled up to the dock at 8:40, just in time to miss the boat, and were told that the next one wouldn't be for another hour.
We drove around through Tacoma and got home at 9:30. End of story.
