During my tread mill work today I plugged in my CD player and tuned out the gym. Of course that means I need to turn up the volume until my ears bleed, but then the gym has music on loud enough for hemorrhages anyway, so what the hey?

I didn't bring any CDs with me so I had to do with what I'd left in the player. Lucky me, it was the soundtrack to "Atlantis". I can workout to that just fine. Well 35 minutes disappeared in a real hurry. The readout summary indicated that I'd had the best run ever. Cool.

"He blocks traffic, stops up drains, he steals everyone's left shoe."

At the same time I found something I had, once again, lost. I found my muse. She's in the music. Every year in August, I lose my muse somewhere. It's kinda sad because August is probably one of my favorite months. It's the back yard of Summer. But for some reason it's my least creative.

My most creative time in my life, so far, and in my opinion, was the 80's. I lived in a one bedroom apartment. I could play music and hear it anywhere in the abode. I'd play it almost constantly. When I moved to Indianola I moved into a dark house. I couldn't hear my music all over so I strung two other speakers into the second room. Then I really didn't want to get up and change the disks. In fact I really wanted to get up and get out of the house. Indianola was a beautiful place to live, but I wasn't really happy there. Something wasn't right. So I stopped playing so much music.

Now I find I get fired up, I get creative, when I play music. I also find I'm better off playing music in the computer room, one disk at a time. I have a physical involvement with the music when I have to stop everything and choose a disk. I hardly ever play the 6 disk changer with the big speakers since we've moved here to Port Orchard. Now that I think about it, I played more music when I depended on vinyl. I had to stop and flip the record if I wanted to hear it all. There's an advantage that vinyl has over CDs.

So when I'm spinning disks I find I'm typing more. Cool! Let's see where it goes.

Vinyl is Satan's Tool!

Ugh: Vinyl. I adore CDs. ^_^
I love that I can program them, set them to repeat, and set them to cycle endlessly from track Last to track First. And I love that it's essentially the same idea (dots on a surface, read by a scanning head) but smaller and more durable and with greater clarity.

If I feel the need to get up, I do. Guess we're just different. :)

I love CDs but I love vinyl, too. Sometimes the record player has this antique static sound that I love (that what I have that de-static thing for! *laughs*)... but if I'm just sitting downstairs I'll usually put a record on instead of a CD. It's hard for some people to understand the things I like or the things I appreciate.
...actually, it's where I find that bit of creativity. I don't find the obvious very interesting to think about but maybe that one insignificant detail that is over looked. It helps me write but I lost my creativity a while back and it has been so hard to get back.

...I need to just sit down, though...and just write. Maybe I can find the wonderful things in the world again if I just relax and not focus on the obvious.

*giggles*...of course what was my point?
Oh yeah. Music is cool. :p

???? [Looks at the obvious] ???

On another point, go read [livejournal.com profile] genebreashears latest essay about creativity. That helps.

As a wannabe DJ, I somewhat dissagree. Only somewhat because there is still a lot of music (that only I like) that is only available on vinyl. I definitely agree that CDs sound better, and it'll be nearly impossible to convince me otherwise (I know, preaching to the choir). I live in two worlds now. This whole DJ thing goes against my tech-fiend nature.
