August Returns
Aug. 4th, 2002 09:42 amToday I'm cleaning up some around the house. I finished the wall work yesterday, moving the remaining soil off to one side so it wouldn't kill the grass. Now my one track mind needs a new track.
Around me is the clutter of the computer room. Papers are scattered all over the floor, resting where the wind form the open window has blown them. The window seems to stay open all summer. Here would possibly be a good place to start, or perhaps a good place to end as this isn't where company usually gravitates to.
Among the cluttered shelves are manila envelopes full of papers, morning pages. I went through an exercise a while ago of hand writing three pages, first thing in the morning, of free form random thought. First thing in the morning so I didn't have time to think of anything, I just had to keep the pen moving across the page.
I opened up the first envelope, it happened to be dated August 1, 2000. Two years ago. Most of it was about how August is a month without holidays and the true back yard of Summer. The final month before the Back to School rush set in.
Has Summer really got underway at all? I guess I built some walls. I've enjoyed the heat and I want more. This summer has been all too short, weather wise. So I guess I'm going to make the most of this month.
I'd like to start the morning pages again. Unfortunately I've taken to going to work early. That sort of takes up my morning. The last time I did morning pages it lead to me returning to school. There were some good things in that, and some things that were disappointing. If I started again with the pages, again in August, I wonder where it would lead?
