Jerry Orbach's character, Lenny Brisco, on the original "Law and Order" is certainly entertaining. A true hard bitten, wisecracking, old NY cop with a dry sense of humor. What I didn't know, or didn't put together, was that Jerry Orbach was also the voice of "Lumiere", the hard bitten, wisecracking candlestick with a dry sense of humor, in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" and a few guest apearances in Disney's "House of Mouse".

Now that I picture it in my mind I can fit the voice to Orbach. He had a damn good singing voice, too.

Jerry Orbach died a couple of days ago. He leaves quite a body of work. [no police investigation is necessary] He will be missed.

I was sad to read of his passing. I liked his character on L&O and I like the extensive career that he had. I hadn't made the Beauty and the Beast connection (like I had with David Ogden Stiers).

I first noticed him as a recurring character on MURDER SHE WROTE, where he played a seedy private detective named Harry McGraw, a role he reprised for a short-lived TV series in the late 80's. I always thought it was funny that he played a role in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST where he had to sing, but I wasn't aware at the time that he'd had an extensive background of singing roles. He was quite good, too.

And they've still got the new LAW AND ORDER show (TRIAL BY JURY) coming out that he was most recently working on. At least a few of the early episodes will have him reprising Lennie as part of the regular cast.
