Today was an exercise in lines. This morning, as soon as Juli left for work, I raced out the door to pay bills. I wanted to get that done so I could hit the road to Bellevue Square. My mother likes a line of figurine miniatures called Wee Forest Folk, and the only store in Washington that carries them is located in the Square. I don't mind playing parking roulette too much. Bellevue Square is a festive pool of shopping squallier, with twinkling lights, softly playing live music, and mostly happy shoppers moving about like salmon trying to swim upstream during a drought.
I should have known today would be troublesome while I ran about for house errands. It started with Bank of America to pay the credit card. Okay, it's a bank. It had a line. That's too be expected. The next stop was the Post Office to get some stamps for work. The Cloudscapes are a terrific series and Port Orchard is the only P.O. in the area that has them. Now who would have expected a line at the Post Office on Saturday Morning during Christmas? Come On! Okay, the cute three year old talking to the very receptive little person was very entertaining.
The next stop was Washington Mutual to transfer money to cover the bills I had just paid. ...OKAY! ITS A BANK and it has a LINE!
At 1:00 I'm on my way to Burien via Tacoma. In Gig Harbor I reach... A line of traffic backed up from the bridge. It's a construction zone full of happy people on their way to shop. Well, since the traffic was backed up I stopped in at TJ Maxx to chat with Juli and offer to get her a Latte. The store was Packed! ...packed with happy shoppers. Before I left Juli was a happy store M.O.D. [Manager of the Day] with a toasty hot Latte in hand.
And it was time to hit the road. I managed to get to Wonderworld without difficulty. I-5 traffic was rather thick but it was moving at speed. Going up 405 to Bellevue was not so easy. There was a rollover accident [good vibe thought to the driver]at the I-90 interchange, and traffic was sluggish clear back to Tukwila. 10 mph sluggish. I got into Bellevue at 4:00, and... okay, I expected this... Bellevue Square traffic is dominating downtown so much that the D.O.T. has reader signs out directing it. Two lanes of traffic feeding into a too small parking lot. Happy shoppers, remember.
I got into the Square at 4:45 and found a parking space immediately! No searching! Yay me! And I didn't even have to scrape another searcher's bumper for it. I quickly located the store that had the "Wee Forest Folk". ...okay. No. The store was now a Lego World. ...filled with happy shoppers. I stood in the mall and stared, jostled by happy shoppers struggling to get by me.
"They say that this shopper's heart shrunk three sizes that day."
Okay, no. It was funny. I like irony, even if it strikes me.
So I hopped in my Subaru, that white ready sleigh, and headed on home with my half wasted day.
I got home about 20 minutes ago. I still needed a gift for my mother. I wanted to locate the nearest store that now carried the line. Instead, within 5 minutes, I had found an online source and I've ordered the piece. 5 minutes.... 6 hours.... 5 minutes... 6 hours.... 5 minutes... 6 hours.... 5 minutes... bdlydlybladl
