Why is everything formatted weird in my friends file? Everything extends about 5 screens wide.

Because Virus posted an "entry" that contained very few spaces. Like, three. All of which were carriage returns.

If you switch your view from the default to something like Generator, it will alleviate the weirdness, causing only Virus' post to run rampant off the right side. :P

We have already chastised him.

If you click the Modify Journal hyperlink on the left, it'll take you to a page where you can make changes and such to how your journal is display. Some of these are very complicated and you don't need to worry about it, but at the top is a series of drop-down selection boxes that contain the names of various display styles. Yours is probably on Default, but if you switch them to something like "Generator", the layout of your journal will change. If you go look at mine you can see what Generator looks like. If you look at my friends page, you can see what I mean about Virus' post.

I see! I didn't know I could do that or where to go to do so. Cool. I can handle that.
