Swirly Thing Alert: H. Ivan C5 / T.D. 10
Sep. 9th, 2004 07:28 amHurricane Ivan has become a Category 5 hurricane. That's as high as the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale goes. Sustained winds are at 160 mph. Fluctuations in strength are forecast.
The eye of the storm is about 455 miles Southeast of Jamaica.
Ale the computer forecast models still bracket the Florida peninsula. That means it's still possible that Ivan will miss Florida, though that's seeming less likely. The state is evacuating all tourists out of the Keys, and are working to get all mobile home residence out as well.

Meanwhile Tropical Depression 10 has formed in the Far Eastern Atlantic. It is forecast to dissipate.
