dolphins_logSome wind shear and dry air is accounting for the decreased intensity of Frances. The wind shear is suppose to dissipate by the time the hurricane core enters the warmer gulf stream outside the Bahamas.
The diameter of the influence of Frances is around 400 to 500 miles, so by the time the core actually leaves the Bahamas hurricane force winds will be hitting Florida. Frances may be a category 2, but she's a big storm.
Tropical Storm and Hurricane watches have been raised for the Gulf coast of Florida.
