Postal Vista
Feb. 6th, 2007 05:52 pmAll of the postal problems are corrected. Apparently the folks down the street dropped the box into a mail bin because the carrier found it back in the system. She showed up at my door all apologetic and complaining about their Saturday carrier, who is apparently somewhat dyslexic.
Meanwhile Amazon is sending replacements. ...??? I guess I'll just refuse delivery on that one.
I spent the day on Monday helping my mother set up her new laptop. There's some fun. She's new to PCs having spent her time on WebTV. Since WebTV is eventually getting orphaned, all the Webbies need to migrate to regular internet.
Her new laptop is fully installed with MS Vista. Vista is ... okay.

Vista proves to be somewhat challenging for the 'new' computer user though. Shutdown proved to be troublesome for my mother. The "Start" button in WinXP has been replaced with a logo circle and no label as to what it is. The Manual [and I] told her to click the 'start' button, and she couldn't find it. In WinXP, when you click the 'start' button you can see the nice big button, labeled clearly 'Turn Off Computer'. In Vista you get a pop up menu, and if you don't know where to look you wont think to click on the teeny tiny arrow next to the lock symbol. If you click on the teeny tiny unlabeled arrow you get another pop up menu. At the bottom of that menu is the line item for shut down.
My mother locked up her computer and FREAKED OUT when it told her it was locking down.
Vista is ...not so friendly.
Addendum: The 'Stand Alone Complex' sondtracks are very cool!
skyoxford would love them.
