The Adventures of....
Feb. 1st, 2006 08:27 amIt was quiet in the studio... too quiet. Two greenware associates spoke softly to each other in the far room. A china painter had called off sick leaving only one china painter who painted quietly while she listened to a book on tape under her headphones.
The bosses were away seeing to home repairs. 20 years ago two skylights were built in the large foundry so that one of the artists could sculpt an 8 foot tall statue. The skylights were badly built and it seems a large 22"x18" beam had rotted near through. 20 years of leaking water will do that to the best of beams. I should know. I've lost a chimney wall to bad construction. It's sad to see it happen to such beautiful old wood though. They don't make beams like that any more.
So the bosses and their #1 son have been tending the repairs. Wouldn't you know? They cut a large hole in the roof in time for the heaviest rain in years to slam through the region. Blue tarp is good, but a good tarp can only do so much. Yeah, their #2 son, that would be me, I have been seeing to the final days of the business.
It's not a sob story, really. It's life. It's how you play the game, see. Sometimes when the chips are down, that's when you draw the strait flush and win the pot. At other times you win with a pair of deuces. The trick is to pull out a win every time, no matter how small. You just have to stare life in the eye and look for those tell tail signs. You know the ones. They're the ones that let you know when life is bluffing, or when life is holding all the cards.
