Vacation of Nothing
Oct. 6th, 2004 07:25 pmLast Thursday I got up early and trekked to work during my vacation. I needed to get some numbers put together for a large shipment before I left the area. I've already reported on the events of Thursday. We still haven't loaded the room. I'll be reclaiming part of my vacation tomorrow so that I can come home on Juli's day off and we can finish this task up.
What I didn't mention was that Thursday Morning it became apparent that I through out my neck. I guess I could have gone to the chiropractor then, but time was not on my side. Juli ended up driving the second trip to Ikea that day. Friday I was a little better and took over the wheel for our trip to Portland. on past trips to Powell's I've merely guessed on how to get there. And I've guessed very well each time. This time I had directions, and the directions are much better then guessing. ...very quick as well.
We spent almost four hours at Powell's with Juli buying most of the books. We had a shocker. Usually when we go to a book store I'll brose a book and find something interesting, only to have Juli tell me to put it back, that she had it already. This time she was looking at a book and I had to tell "her" to put it back, that "I" had it already. It was bound to happen sometime. I bought a few books, but mostly I was Juli's pack horse. It was actually very good for my neck. The weight of the basket was like being in traction.
This thing with directions... Well the access to Highway 26, a.k.a. the Sunset Highway, is only about 6 blocks from Powell's. Highway 26 takes you from Portland to just about 3 miles north of Cannon Beach on Highway 101. The last time I was on the Sunset Highway was back in 1988 when I drove
kehf home from San Diego Comicon. Whoa! That was years ago. I can say I don't remember any of it, other then the tunnels, and I think they were just building the the 101/26 interchange back then.
The nothing part of our vacation was wonderful. The only room that we could get at the resort we like had an in room spa. Not a bathtub in the bathroom with jets in it, but a spa right in the main room. Luxury! And perfect for my aching neck. After our beach walk and dinner, we soaked for about an hour and a half on Friday Night. We turned off the jets for a couple of minutes and just listened to the Ocean surf.
Saturday we had our obligatory breakfast at the P&P and visited about three shops. Then, from 2 until 6 we just lounged in the room, read and enjoined the sound of the water. ...and nothing else. The was our beautiful nothing, and it was "so" what I needed.
