Hurricane Alex has sustained winds of 100 mph, making him a category 2 hurricane.

Right now Alex is predicted to skirt the North Carolina coast, however any deviation to the west would bring the storm center over NC's outer banks.

A tropical depression has formed SSE of Guadeloupe. Current projections show that Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands should keep keep an eye on this system. By the time it reaches the Lesser Antilles it will likely be a Tropical Storm.

The center of Alex is passing 15 miles off of Cape Hatteras. Hurricane force winds extend out 25 miles and Tropical Storm force winds extend out to 105 miles. While the barrier islands are getting pounded, only a piece of the N.C. mainland is experiencing Tropical Storm winds.
