Hurricane warnings have been issued for the North Carolina coast and Oregon Sound. Tropical Storm Alex is expected to become a hurricane within the next 24 hours.

Alex becomes the first Atlantic Hurricane of 2004, with sustained winds of 75 mph. The category one hurricane is skirting the North Carolina coast. Hurricane warning are posted from Cape Lookout to the Oregon Inlet and Pamlico Sound.
