Lighthouse Dinner
Feb. 14th, 2003 10:12 pmJuli arrived home at about 6:30. I greeted her upstairs in our bedroom. I had the white christmas lights on in the tree. On the made bed was a red teddy bear with gold flecks. the bear was holding her card. Behind the bear on the pillows I had set the heart shaped box of chocolates. The box had a burgundy felt cover. Behind the headboard was a large heart shaped gold and red mylar balloon, and on her nightstand, a small vase with three red roses. I was dressed in my black slacks, dark blue dress shirt and red print tie. I stood behind the bed and waited.
The reaction was perfect.
We left for Tweeten's Lighthouse soon after Juli arrived home. we've been going to Tweeten's for Valentines Day for the last ten of the five years we've been married, once in 5 inches of snow, and it was still falling. I think the time in the snowfall clinched it, that this was going to be our tradition. I didn't know at the time that we were going to be living down here. Now, even though Tweeten's is only 10 minutes away rather than the half hour drive from Silverdale, or the hour and a half from Indianola, it's still an adventure.
Tonight we had our seat in the corner, with a clear view of the lights of Bremerton across the harbor. We've been seated here a number of times now. We munched on our bagel chips and chive cream cheese, everyone gets them. It's a Tweeten's tradition. We had our traditional Valentines Dinners; she had prime rib and I the pacific halibut. We toasted with our burgundy and riesling. To revelations, long vacations and love elations. To our four and a half year honeymoon. To being long time newlyweds. To our good friends. To love.
We talked. There used to be voids in our conversations. There are fewer voids. The more we are together, the more we have to talk about. That's backwards... isn't it?
We stopped for desert on the way home. Cherry Almond Fudge ice Cream. We will have some later.
