Juli's Commute
Sep. 17th, 2002 09:11 pmI've been thinking Juli's commute was cool. Driving South on the open freeway, heading for an urban center... It's so much different then mine, heading north, further and further away from it all.
So this morning we got up at 5:15 and I took her to get her car. Traffic backed up suddenly, and I mean suddenly, at Olympic. It came to a crawl about two miles from the bridge. Juli's commute sucks! And I've heard the radio reports. Today was a light day.
We fought through traffic, there's another backup at the construction site at Union, and we met Juli's gang in the parking lot. The assistant managers had a meeting in Portland today and Juli was going to car pool. Last night was a little too rough though, what with the service so fresh. Juli's boss as well as the west coast manager suggested that Juli skip it and take the day, and this morning she decided to take the offer. She needed to let the others into the store to get directions though.
Instead Juli and I went to Bertelino's and had a hot cuppa. We sat outside and watched the day get lighter, and we talked. [Berti's stays open 24 hours, a 24 hour coffee shop! How 'bout that?] We just relaxed and enjoyed our brew.
At about 7:15 I decided I needed to head out. I had to drive to Poulsbo from Tacoma and get to work. Now there is a commute I wouldn't want.
