Writer's Night was fun.

It's been a while since I've been inspired enough to sit and type for a few hours at a time. I read the beginning of the story at writer's night and I received some very helpful comments, especially the flaws in the parents behavior. I was interested in how people speculated on where the story was going. That was fun.

Chuck read a good chunk from his Felicia story and has everyone on pins and needles. [livejournal.com profile] zorkfox read what I think is the beginning of a story, though it could work as a stand alone. I'm sure we're all curious as to why the character's ship was attacked and why he was willing to blow it up, but all that is unimportant to what Jarred read. We got to here [livejournal.com profile] sora_kitsune's next chapter in his "Bless the Gutter" story, though parts of it seem familiar to me, especially the neko being zapped by the temple ward. Maybe Sky has talked about them. In any case, I'm anxious to here what happens next.

Other people had stories, but Juli and I simply ran out of time. We missed the Southworth ferry by seconds. We watched them drop the gate as we drove up. That meant we got to drive around as the next boat wouldn't be in for an hour and a half. We'd get home before the boat would even be in Fauntleroy to pick us up.
Juli and I talked about my story on the way home. She felt that the kids dialog wasn't old enough to be 12. That's going to take a little work. It's been a while since I was twelve.
There were some suggestions that I could tighten up what I've written and call it a stand alone story. Interesting, but I can't do that. There is too much story that wants to be told.

Anyway, all in all it was a great session, and I'm inspired to push ahead.

Again, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] genebreshears for hosting. ...and cooking a terrific salmon, even though the name of it sounds like a coffee bean. Great food, Gene ...& Mike? And Happy Birthday again to Sky and [livejournal.com profile] jwyldragon! ...or was it Jarred and J'ywl? I don't remember. I know it was a few days ago, but we didn't get to eat cake.

Tsk, tsk

Michael did all the actual cooking. I bought the two salmon, rinsed them, put them in the baking bag, seasoned them with white pepper, lemon pepper, salt, fresh chopped dill (Michael did the chopping), fresh chopped lemon thyme (ditto), the Secret Ingredient (which Michael also chopped), put in lemon juice and butter and lots of lemon slices.

Michael put it in the oven and decided when it was ready to pull out.

J'wyl's birthday was earlier this month, Michael's is this Tuesday. That's why Michael had the fancy new computer upstairs that I told people to go look at. :P

The story ideas are floating around in my head and I have a few notes written. I wrote to what I thought was a good stopping point and thought I'd Leave Well Enough Alone. I'm sort of hoping it will be a "character introduction story" for Tai-Pan and I haven't quite figured out HOW/WHY the ship explodes, but it's gotta be something pretty damn stupid. Or maybe just plain bad luck. Or maybe sabotage. There are so many possibilities when you're talking about pirates! ^_^

But the ship doesn't/didn't belong to Jordan.

Deja Fu!

It seems familiar becasue I had read a very incomplete version half a year ago. I had roughly three scenes completed so I read them at Writer's Night. Then I got sidetracked and forgot I was even working on the story for most of that time. ^_^; I need focus.
