So after contemplating via the previous entry I started putting together my homework at about 10:30 last night. I finished by 1:00. I'll be going to class tonight and I will probably continue to take it on a week by week basis.
I find that I am getting other things done. I'm not letting this class be a burden which frees my time to attend to other projects; the house, the yard (have lots of landscaping to do), other art projects (I've pulled out the reference books), computer changes.
It's all good.

Burdens
So I'm wondering if there isn't some other forces that are influencing both of us. You know, the weather, the change in season, vacation in California caused a change in perspective.
Just a thought.
Perhaps, then again...
Date: 2002-02-13 12:06 pm (UTC)Not so much the weather or the seasons change though. I went through those last year without difficulty. Winter I had color theory and spring I was introduced to graphic arts. Even then I found I had more fun in color theory then I did in graphic arts.
My other concern is that half the class is no longer showing up. It sort of lends credence to my feelings about this instructor.
Last year
I'm not disputing that your instructor is failing to make the class compelling. I'm just idly wondering about that fact that on one level I'm feeling similar feelings about going to class, yet I have very different feelings about the content of mine.
I'm going to finish my typography class because I'm learning lots and I love the subject. I had already made the plan to take the next quarter off, in hopes that I'd have more time for my own sketching and painting that way. I may take the intermediate typography class later and this letterpress class could be a lot of fun. Or maybe I'll start looking around for some more fine art type classes elsewhere.
Fine art type classes?
True enough, fine art is more appealing. I haven't been influenced by the weather just yet. It's cold out there! There's other things going on, some of which has to do with "I don't care", or opening up to possibilities. I don't want to waste time with something that isn't working.
And there is frustration with this instructor. He's a nice guy and all, and he's learning to teach. I just wish I wasn't the one he was learning on.
The more I think about it I will probably see the class through. I may not sweat out the homework as much unless I get truly inspired. We'll see.
I have a question I'd like to ask future SVC instructors: "Do you enjoy your work?" Maybe I'll ask Minh tonight.
