I got the newsletter out! Yay! It took three hours for the poor printer to print them all, but they're on their way.



These are the tunes that were in my head as I woke on various days up last month. I know because I wrote them down in my morning pages.

"Fly Like an Eagle" by The Steve Miller Band
Some rap from DJ Czarcasm's mix
"All Fly Away" and I don't even remember what this was or the tune.
"I Hear You Call My Name" no idea
"Never Had to Knock On Wood" Don't know who does it, but I love this song.
"Mediate" by INXS
"Wake Me Up" from the Daredevil soundtrack [which I don't have].

That's the list. It only goes to prove that you should never trust a waking mind.

I dunno either. I remember there was a song by 80's ballad/metal band Night Ranger with that title. Googling those words just gets me "Like A Prayer"

Ah well... Like I said, never trust a waking mind. The truth to tell I'm always way behind in the music world. Ask the gang. Back in 1988 I decided it was time to get some more contemporary music, like Journey and Boston. In 1995 I decided to upgrade again, like The Cars.

I never was into Genesis until I started searching out Phil Collins. All I knew about Phil Collins was that he was this guy who showed up occasionally on some show called Miami Vice. I did not know Peter Gabriel was in the bad Genesis, and his name I knew.

What can I say, I'm working on a back beat while everyone else is going forward. Hey, I dance to Muzak in the grocery stores. Drives Juli nuts.

I know what you mean on behind date info on bands and stuff. I never listened to anything but classical until I got to college. Then I found that I like soft rock (like what they play on 106.9) and oldies, but that I like world music better. Especially Celtic. I'll occaisionally hear a song on the radio that I like, and ask someone what it is. I often get gaping stares that say "you mean you don't know?" Keeps life interesting. But I can tell the difference between Hungarian and Bulgarian music... :-)

Peter Gabriel is a better vocalist than Phil. But I like Phil, too.

And I like the material that Mr. Gabriel has put out since going solo better than what Genesis was doing. And I like some of what Gensis did with Phil better than some of what they did before. Not better than all, mind you.

I think it was a win-win situation. ^_^

I'll go along with most of that. I liked Gabriel's solo stuff in the eighties. Liked Genesis -after- Phil Collins joined the band. Could never get into the Gabriel / Genesis, though. Roz Gibson tried to interest me several years ago by sending me some tapes, and since a good bit of her work was inspired, I gave it a listen. Just couldn't get into it; couldn't connect. Collins / Genesis, on the other hand, I had no problem with at all, and enjoy it tremendously.

Well, we're pretty much in the same boat. I thought the last creative surge in music was during the eighties (in my opinion, at least), and lost interest as new styles, like grunge and rap and the whiny femal vocalists (like Mariah Carey), took prominence. While I pick up on a new tune or band now and again, I generally content myself with the soundtrack of the first thirty-five years of rock 'n' roll and contemporary pop.

But Muzak? ...I shudder...
