I've been neglecting LJ!!
Mar. 30th, 2003 09:54 pmI guess I'll need to make a "daily post" resolution for April.
What a weekend! This has got to be the first weekend of summer. Right now I'm upstairs with the window open. It's warm up here at 9:30 PM. I've got the Moody Blues playing, that's great Summer music. And I've got a chorus of frogs going outside down in the storm water pond. How could it possibly get better? Well... I could have done better with my goals, but that will happen so I'm not worried.
Yesterday I needed to get yardwork done. Now... all my life I've always inherited someone's lawnmower. I've always made do with something that just barely gets by. It's made lawn mowing a chore. Saturday I spent $200 and bought a new one with a rear grass catcher. The mower fires on the first pull. That's handy since I have to shut down after two swiped across the lawn to empty the grass catcher. I know mulching is good, it's just not good for lawns of laid sod. The mulched grass creates dead spots. I take it off for the rest of the yard. That's about 80%. For what used to be dirt made of glacial till and clay it's starting to come up pretty green.
My neighbor came out near the end of my mowing venture and talked for a bit. He's got a hydro-seeded lawn that, for some reason, has sprouted those yellow foreign tuberous plants that are bad for livestock. I happen to remember that they come up easy, so I started pulling them up for him. It took us about ten minutes to clear his yard.
He's a Navy recruiter, and even though he's seeing a lot of business right now, he's still feeling a little isolated. He pointed to our other neighbors black POW/MIA flag and said he had to get his old glory out because of it. He seemed a little surprised when I told him that the Navy building in Poulsbo is flying them both.
Today I slept in. It's the first time I've had a good nights sleep since Juli has recovered. We had a nice Sunday brunch. I got out the old Belgian waffles iron and made some crispy Belgian waffles and cooked up some maple sausage. Yumm! We relaxed and watched "The Portrait of Dorian Grey", a very cool somewhat creepy B&W movie. I then headed down to the newly reopened Harper ferry dock, an old mosquito fleet dock that's been rebuilt into a community dock. There's a little espresso stand there. Juli and I met the proprietor there before we moved into Port Orchard. We haven't been back since, but she remembered me... well... she remembered that we had cats.
I spent the next forty minutes standing out at the end of the dock enjoying the warm breeze and my hot chai, and watching the Vashon boats sail forth and back. I've also found another park to walk about in since I wont pay the $5 to walk in Manchester. It's all good. Great sunny summer day.
Not as good as I'd like, but not all together bad either.

Failure. Juli was ill this week, which equated into no sleep for me. I took the workout time and used it for sleep.
Continue morning pages at least three times a week.
Hmmm. While I did do some morning pages I find that If I'm not focused on goals I don't really have anything to blather about. Let's see what happens tomorrow.
Find new sources for thinking of others and for focusing on my own emotional outlook. For now make it a proactive exercise. Work on making it a habit.
Marginal success. Keeping myself from sliding into "no think" is an ongoing endeavor. I've found that if I'm not thinking about where my reactions are coming from I'm not in control of them.
