The decrease in strength was caused by Ivans interaction with Jamaica. The Eye of Ivan passed just south of the island last night. Now that Ivan is over very warm ocean water he is expected to regain strength.
A small high pressure zone developed over Florida and the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, causing Ivan to continue moving west a little more. Currently all forecasting computer models have shifted further east, away from Florida. The High Pressure zone is supposed to weaken later today, as the High over the Bahamas strengthens, letting Ivan shift to the north.
