[We marched on June 5th ]

Juli joined me for this one.

Port Gamble surprised me.  Last time I visited the town the mill was still in operation.  The only thing in the town of interest really was the general store.  back then it was dusty and just supplied what you might find in a convenience store.  The proprietor had a museum on the second floor.  He sat behind the counter reading a paper.  He said "If you want to see the museum it's 50 cents.  I'll let you in."

Now the whole town has shops and restaurants.  The floor of the general store has been varnished and the back of it is a hosted restaurant.  The museum is still there on the second floor and still self guided.

The buildings are immaculate, not a run down one in the bunch, including the ones in the back roads that are rented out.  The architecture is unchanged.  The covenants must be extremely strict.

Most of the walk, 8k of the 10k, was in the woods in back of the town.  Pope Resources still owns the woods and they are devoting it to recreation.  I picked up a map of the Port Gamble Trail System...  WOW!  The Pope Woods extend clear back from Port Gamble to Bond Road!  Get a map!  It's HUGE.  A Huge undeveloped massive amount of North Kitsap.  Incredible!

Lots of woods on this one.  ...woods with nettles.   And me wearing shorts because it got over 90 degrees.  At least I got the hike in before the heat of the day.

...and the hills are impressive.

I would give the Kingston walk two grumpy hikers.  But both of them got stung by nettles and went home.
