Volksmarch - University Place
Jun. 5th, 2010 09:08 pmThis was another surprise.
I chose the University Place walk as Juli and I assumed it wouldn't be "all that". And since Juli wouldn't be able to go on this one I decided to get it out of the way.
Okay, so University Place is "all that". It starts off wandering through gated neighborhoods with manicured lawns and manicured green spaces. Surprise though, there is the ever present pop of gunfire. All these neighborhoods are by a rifle and revolver range. I thought it was an interesting counterpoint.
Then by a cemetery, which includes a pet cemetery. It takes you through a small park before it drops you into the walking trails of the Cambridge Bay Golf Course on the edge of Puget Sound.
--"Please, everyone, stay on the path. Watch for stray golf balls. While we have taken every precaution to assure your safety, if you get hit, -- you're on your own."--
Still very cool, as they have tried to keep some of the history of the old gravel pit intact. This pit helped to build Fort Casey, Fort Flagler, Fort Warden, Fort Steilacoom, and later, parts of I-5. In the process they tried to design the course after Scottish Links. I'm no Golfer, but it's green and its got views.
The Golf Course was the highlight of the trip. After that there was a long hike back to the starting point. I managed to get in in today as Yesterday was wet... and Tomorrow is looking wet.
