Today our first stop was Santa Cruz. And we were all like "this is surf city". Our first lighthouse was the Surfer's Memorial. It was built to remember eighteen-year-old Mark Abbott drowned in 1965 while surfing near the point. The family used the insurance money to build the memorial and surfer museum, which was completed in 1967. It's a brick lighthouse built to honor all surfers in Santa Cruz.
The next lighthouse in Santa Cruz was the Walton Lighthouse that was donated to the Santa Cruz marina. It's the first green marker as you enter the harbor. It's new, built in 2001.
Third stop, from newest to oldest: Pinos Point. It's down beyond Monetary in Pacific Grove. Cool!
