Blood, Gym, and Nagative Space
Oct. 16th, 2006 07:42 pmI took Juli to the clinic again this morning for her blood draw. She told me why she's afraid of it all. The last time she had blood drawn, over 20 years ago, the tech made hamburger of her arm [my words, not hers]. No wonder she's afraid. This time there was a tech that Dr. Flechman advised Juli to ask for. Lisa took Juli in. I could hear Lisa telling Juli to lean back and breath. A moment later I heard Juli exclaim "Your done?! I didn't feel a thing! Keith! When you do this ask for Lisa!"
Juli and I had cinnamon rolls for breakfast. It's not the healthy food that I like, but I do enjoy having breakfast with Juli. She needed feel good food anyway.
After Juli left for work I decided it was time to restart my gym schedule. I hunted around for my membership card for about 30 minutes before I remembered that I left it in the member files at the gym. Sure enough, there it was.
I took a page from
miko2's file and walked the treadmill for a full hour. You can't do that when it's busy. If there are people waiting for a treadmill they limit you to 30 minutes. Middle of the day though, no problem. There is hardly anyone there.
This ties into my work with the Betty Edwards book. As I walked the treadmill I couldn't help but look about at all the people and the equipment and observe the negative space. I was drawing it all in my head, and considering ways to adapt it to the Tai Pan universe. ..replacing people with characters and the like, and wondering what gym equipment in the future would look like. I suppose different characters would need different types of equipment. Kiakiru would need some sort of current pool. It would have to be a strong current pool.
I compare gym equipment now to what it looked like 20 years ago. There are big differences and other things that haven't changed at all.
For my hour treadmill walk I earned a quarter sized blister on my heel. Lucky me!
Today I worked with negative space. I've done all this before, many times. All of it. Pure Contour, Modified Contour, Negative Space, Tomorrow it's Sighting and Ratios. I'm not the beginner I once was, and I've said before, with this book that's a disadvantage. However I'm getting some incite that I didn't have before.
A lot of it may have something to do with all the time I can devote to it now, that previously wasn't there.
