The "Old News" award goes to...
Mar. 25th, 2002 08:27 amSpeaking of awards, I just found out who won the 2001 Hugo. For those of you who don't know, the Hugo award winners are voted on by the membership or attendees at WorldCon. WorldCon 59 was in August of 2001.
So the Winner for Best Novel of 2001, and joining the ranks of Arthur C. Clark, Isaac Asimov, David Brin, C. J. Cherryh, Lois McMaster Bujold and Connie Willis,.....
J.K. Rowling for "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"
So I haven't read it yet. Juli and I wait for the trade paperback. But I have to admit, I'm rather surprised. The competition was
A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin (Voyager; Bantam Spectra)
Calculating God by Robert J. Sawyer (Tor)
Midnight Robber by Nalo Hopkinson (Warner Aspect)
and
The Sky Road by Ken MacLeod (Orbit 1999; Tor 2000)
Okay, so I haven't heard of any of these others. Perhaps I would have voted for Harry Potter as well.
Hmmmmm
