Leave crazy people alone.
Feb. 19th, 2002 01:01 pmI did stupid. Our property at work shares a boundary with the local hotel. We have a small patch of green grass that our employees like to lie out in during the summer lunch breaks. Often hotel guests mistake our property for hotel property and bring their dogs over to use our small patch of green despite there being lots of other grass all around. So we put up a small polite sign saying please no dogs. Often people don't see the sign. All it takes is a light tap on the window and everything is fine.
Today a gentleman brought his dog over. I tapped on the window. He acknowledged me but continued to direct his dog to use the grass. I tapped a little harder and he flipped me off.
Here's my stupid. I reacted. I did not intend to be diplomatic. I stormed out of the building and... before I had a chance to say word one he advanced on me to a half inch away, red in the face and spitting mad. I thought that was supposed to be me. So I'm thinking what, is he going to take a swing at me?
Fortunately something stepped in, it wasn't reason 'cause I didn't have any. I'm still coming off of some flu. I turned my back on him and went to place a call. I didn't place the call. He left in a hurry.
It was stupid. The grass is dormant right now. No one is going to lay in the mud. Yes, it had more to do with his aggressive stance on our property and my need to respond.
ASSHOLES DOTH VEX ME!
So I did stupid. Fortunately I came away unscathed and I learned a valuable lesson. Diplomacy has its place. So does a blind eye.
